Snow Canyon

Snow Canyon

snowcanyon overlook Carl Berger

Description: Snow Canyon State Park is just minutes outside of St. George and features natural lava tube caves, over half a mile of sand dunes, an extinct volcano and volcano crater, a natural amphitheater and unique rock formations.  You can climb mountains and see and panoramic views explore slot canyons, see Petroglyphs and Pioneer writings, petrified and normal sand dunes. My favorite hikes in Snow Canyon are the Whiterocks Trail,

The Lava Flow Overlook Trail and the Sand Dunes.

The Whiterocks Trail leads to the natural amphitheater and some amazing white sand dunes. I love climbing to the top of the white sand dunes and jumping down them in bare feet. You can also climb to the top of the mountain here and get some amazing views of the entire park!

The Lava Flow Overlook Trail leads to the natural lava tube cave. There is just something fun about exploring a cave, bring a flash light and be prepared to squeeze into some tight spaces and do a little climbing. Sometimes small bats will be in the cave so be prepared to share the space.

The Sand Dunes. Some of my best memories are spending time with friends and family at the Sand Dunes in Snow Canyon. They are like a giant sand box for kids of all ages. The Canyon at this location also has an amazing acoustic echo. When you are their yell “Echo” at the top of your lungs and be prepared to hear it bounce of the canyon walls seconds later.

Snow canyon also has great bike trials, rock climbing and horseback riding!

Cost: $6 Per Vehicle for day use.

Location:

Go north on Bluff Street to the intersection with Snow Canyon Parkway. Turn left onto Snow Canyon Parkway and go about 3.5 miles then turn right onto Snow Canyon Drive. Follow this road to the south entrance of the park.
