Elephant Arch. Dino tracks, Bone Wash Cottonwood Canyon.
Description:
Within the Red Cliffs National Conservation area in the cottonwood canyon wilderness you will find some great hikes. My favorites are in the bone wash area which leads to Elephant Arch; there are also some old Dinosaur tracks that can be found in this area.
Cost: Free
Location: Just above Washington near the green springs area. There are a couple access roads here. If you don’t have an off road vehicle the best access location is at the very end of Main Street in Washington near the Lavenita Condos. You can park near the La Venita Condos and continue north on foot 1.3 miles on the dirt road until you see the start of the Red Cliffs National Conservation area.
If you want to get a little bit closer and have an off road vehicle you can take the I-15
Washington Parkway Exit. Go North towards and as the road loops around to Buena vista boulevard there is a dirt road you can take continue on this dirt road to just above main street turn right and continue until you reach the gate to the Red Cliffs conservation area.
You will see a sign that points to Green Springs and Millcreek, follow the sign to Millcreek. You will see signs pointing to Bone wash. Bone wash has some smaller sand dunes and is a beautiful wash to hike in. Continue hiking in the wash until you see signs pointing to Elephant arch. From there just stay on the main trail. Some of the signs are confusing pointing to Elephant arch that will lead you to smaller trails. Just stay on the main big trail and this will take you there.
