Learning Dates

Some of the most memorable dates are dates where you can learn something. If you can learn something with your date, it will strengthen your relationship and leave you with memories that will last forever. These are some of my favorite learning dates.

  1. Do something musical. Learn to play a song together, or better yet make up lyrics and create your own song. You can take Guitar, piano or voice lessons or enroll in a musical class together. After you’ve perfected your performance go to an open mic like Jazzy’s Rock N Roll Grill and perform.

  1. Draw or paint together. Go to a paint your own pottery place or take a ceramics or pottery painting class. Brushfire Pottery is great and Dixie offers several ceramic and painting classes.

  1. Visit historical sites and museums. Southern Utah has many historical sites such as the Brigham Young Winter Home, The Jacob Hamblin Home, The Daughters of Utah Pioneers museum, The Temple Visitor Center. There are also several local museum’s like the Rosenbruch Wildlife Museum, Dinosaur Discovery Museum at Johnson Farm, The St. George Art Museum, The Sears Gallery, Kayenta Art Galleries, Art Galleries on Main and the Western Sky Warbirds Museum.

  1. Do some get to know you activities. Go through your Facebook friend list and see what “mutual friends” you have and talk about how you know each of your mutual friends  and maybe tell a story or some memory you have of them. Create a list of questions that you would like to know about each other. These could be silly or unusual facts about each other or simple things you want to learn about each other. Write down your answers and read your favorite ones.Go through your old pictures and scrap books, tell stories about the pictures.  Talk about your life goals, make a list of goals that you would like to accomplish and share them with each other.

  1. Read a book together. Reading can be entertaining and educational. Go to a library, or a book store. Find out what books your date is most interested in.

  1. Go to a Karate lesson, take a yoga class or learn a flash mob dance.

  1. Visit a Pet Store, an animal shelter or a petting zoo.

  1. Learn a foreign language together and learn some basic phrases so only you two can understand the meaning.

9.  Sign-up for a community education class. There are many classes that are only a session or two long and don’t require an entire semester of commitment.

  1. Visit a denomination other than your own on a Sunday. You will learn some of the differences between what different people believe and probably appreciate your faith and others faith more.
